"The Happy Prince and Other Tales" is a collection of stories for children
written by Oscar Wilde. It includes five stories: "The Happy Prince," "The
Nightingale and the Rose," "The Selfish Giant," "The Devoted Friend," and "The
Remarkable Rocket." In "The Happy Prince," a statue asks a swallow to give his
precious belongings to the poor, and they both end up in heaven. "The
Nightingale and the Rose" tells the story of a nightingale who sacrifices her
life to create a red rose for a student in love. "The Selfish Giant" is about
a giant who learns the value of kindness and generosity. "The Devoted Friend"
explores the theme of true friendship through the story of Hans and Hugh.
Lastly, "The Remarkable Rocket" follows the pompous and self-important journey
of a firework. These stories have been adapted into various forms, including
radio dramas, films, operas, and musicals.
